Robert Owen doing the Accounts at New Lanark
Here is a picture showing Robert Owen doing the accounts at New Lanark. This is one of the figures that one will see in the old shop down at New Lanark.
Robert Owen invested the profits of New Lanark in Education. He built two buildings for this purpose - the School which took care of the children from 2 - 10 years of age and the Institute for the Formation of Character. This was to provide adult education from 10 - 20 years of age.
Of Education Robert Owen said in his book (The Social System) 1826 "to train and educate the rising generation will at all times be the first object of society, to which every other will be subordinate".
