This article is interesting in that it shows New Lanark on 14/3/1974. It shows some of the challenge that awaited Jim Arnold when he was appointed as manager. It was through the efforts of Jim as manager that New Lanark became inscribed as a World Heritage site along with the tireless work of both paid staff, volunteers and the New Lanark Trust. In particular it was the last provost of Lanark, the late Harry Smith who got the ball rolling. Anyway New Lanark would not be the place it is today without their leadership. Businesses moved down there and one of the prominent people was Arthur Bell.
