Life in 1919 at the time of the last pandemic was not exactly `a bowl of cherries` indeed for most people, it was pretty grim. Poverty stalked the land and no where was this a more accurate description of the situation for most workers in the coal industry. This article was published in the Sphere on March 29th 1919.
