FIRST FLOOR OF JERVISWOOD HOUSE FIREPLACE

This is another fireplace but it is on the first floor of Jerviswood house and is much larger than the one in the previous picture. It was the demand for both timber for building and for fuel that led to a great demand for wood. So much so that by the beginning of the 17th century there was a growing shortage ofwood.
William Lithgow ,the great traveller from Lanark comments on this in his autobiography `The Painful peregrinations of William Lithgow.`
